Economic Uncertainty
Issue #157
Good morning!
All eyes are on the Fed today, which is expected to cut rates by 25 bps. As always, the FOMC's economic projections and the Fed’s press conference will follow the meeting.
The only labour-related data released supported a rate cut as the ADP report showed that the US private sector cut 32,000 jobs, while companies with fewer than 50 employees cut 120,000 jobs. This was a significant miss relative to the mild job creation expected. The bond market is currently pricing a rate cut today with almost 90% probability, up from as low as 40% a few weeks ago.
We have a busy week ahead, data-wise, as we finally receive the delayed US PPI and payrolls data (Oct and Nov) and the latest unemployment rate figure. Given the time lag, forecasts are certainly less reliable, but the PPI index is expected to be slightly higher and non-farm payrolls softer than the latest September print. UK data is expected to be positive, with GDP holding steady after a monthly decline, while inflation is expected to tick down 0.2% year-on-year compared to the latest data point. In China, expectations are for both retail sales and industrial production to grow even faster than in the last print.
Art Basel Miami was vibes. Between all the nonstop networking chaos, two events absolutely crushed it. Our Golf Invitational and the Mild Mild West Casino Night. Both were a total hit, and Weekly Wizdom took home the win at the golf tournament!
