Good morning!
The main data released last week were non-farm payrolls, which came out softer than expected, and US unemployment, which ticked up by 0.1%. This indicated a weakening labour market, increasing market confidence in a rate cut, and supporting risk assets overall.
We have a very busy week ahead, with the ECB expected to keep rates steady tomorrow. We also get the last print of US inflation before the Fed meeting, with consensus expecting core inflation to be stable and headline inflation to rise by 0.1% month-on-month. On Friday, UK GDP growth is expected to be softer, while on Monday, China’s retail sales are expected to surge higher by 5% year-on-year. All eyes, however, will be on the Fed meeting and press conference next Wednesday, with the market pricing in almost full certainty a 25 bps cut.
